By Connor Simms, #30 World-Ranked Kevin Koe with Tyler Tardi at third, Aaron Sluchinski and Karrick Martin on the front end, look to have a bounce-back season. After a couple of seasons of struggles, Koe fell to #30 in the world, which is not usually the case for Koe. missed the playoffs in nine events last season, but they were successful in a major tour event, winning the RBC Dominion Securities Western Showdown. They are in the ATB Okotoks Classic this weekend, kicking off their season. Last season in this event, Koe missed the playoffs after going 2-3 through the triple knockout bracket. They opened this event with a loss to British Columbia's Cameron de Jong, 8-4. They then rallied wins on the B-side, defeating Alberta's Ryan Parent 6-4, Alberta's Ryan Jacques 8-2, and Jacob Libbus 6-4. This set up a rematch with Cameron de Jong in the B-qualifier match. Koe won the opening draw to the button for the hammer. After a blank in the first end, Koe got a deuce in the second. De Jong was forced to their single point in the third. Koe broke the game open with three points in the fourth end. De Jond found a deuce in the fifth end. Koe was successful with the hammer, securing another deuce in the sixth end, and won the game 7-to-3. In the other B-qualifier games, Manitoba's Reid Carruthers defeated Minnesota's John Shuster 7-2, and Manitoba's Jordon McDonald defeated Saskatchewan's Rylan Kleiter 5-3.
