![]() Manitoba's Kerri Einarson (photo: Anil Mungal/GSOC) defeated Korea's Eun Ji Gim 7-0 in the final at the Saville Shootout in Edmonton, Alberta. By Connor Simms, #6 World Ranked with Val Sweeting at third, Shannon Birchard, Krysten Karwacki, and Karlee Burgess on the front end, dominated their first event of the season. Through the round-robin, Einarson went a perfect 4-0. They defeated Japan's Yuina Miura 9-3, then defeated Alberta's Jessie Hunkin. They then defeated Alberta's Selena Sturmay 7-1 and Minnesota's Tabitha Peterson 6-5 in their final round-robin match. In the quarterfinals, they defeated Korea's Youbeen Park 8-2. Then, in the semifinals, they had a rematch with Peterson, beating her 7-4. This set up a match against Korea's Eun Ji Gim (#5) in the final, who also went 4-0 through the round robin. Einarson won the opening draw to the button for the hammer. In the first end, Einarson found the scoring quick with a deuce after a wide draw to the side of the four-foot. After a nice tap in the second, Gim was unable to make the slash, giving up a steal of one. The steel train kept going for the remainder of the game with a steal of two in the third after a perfect end from the Einarson rink, forcing Gim to attempt to come through a very tight hole. In the fourth end, Einarson stole another, after a missed tough double attempt from Gim. It was handshakes after the fifth end, when Gim failed to make a tap for their single point, handing Einarson the 7-0 victory. On the men's side, British Columbia's Cameron de Jong defeated their home province rival, Matthew Blandford, 8-1 in five ends. Einarson's next event will be in London, Ontario, at the Grand Slam of Curling Masters from September 23rd-26th. |
