By Connor Simms, #20 World-Ranked Jordon McDonald with Jacques Gauthier at third, Elias Huminicki and Cameron Olafson on the front end, continue to look strong early in the 2025-2026 season. Coming off a second-place finish at the U25 NextGen Curling Classic last week, losing the final to Ontario's Sam Mooibroek 4-6. McDonald is at the Saville Shootout for the second straight season. Last season, they finished in second place, losing the final to Saskatchewan's Mike McEwen. They took on Alberta's Peter Hlushak in their second round-robin game. McDonald won the opening draw to the button for the hammer. Starting hot out of the gate, McDonald cracked five points after making a lightweight takeout around a guard. The next end, they were able to force Hlushak, after he made a draw to the four-foot for their single. McDonald was forced in the third end after coming up a bit heavy on a draw to the side of the button for two. McDonald sought another big end, stealing four points after Hlushak was light on a draw. It was handshakes after the fifth end when Hlushak came up light on another draw, giving up a steal of two and the 12-1 final score. McDonald won their opening game against Alberta's Zach Davies 9-7 in extra ends. Tomorrow, they will face British Columbia's Cameron de Jong at 12:15 Mountain Time (MT) and Alberta's Evan Van Amsterdam at 4:30 pm MT.
