Norway's Skaslien/Nedregotten win International Mixed Doubles Sochi


Kristin Moen Skaslien/Magnus Nedregotten (Oslo, NOR) wins the International Mixed Doubles Sochi, defeating Anastasia Bryzgalova/Alexander Krushelnitskiy (St. Petersburg, RUS) 8-7 in an extra end. Skaslien/Nedregotten take home the $4,456CDN first place cheque while Bryzgalova/Krushelnitskiy receives $2,546CDN for their second place finish.

Starting with hammer, Skaslien/Nedregotten scored 4 in the first end, then added a steal in the second end. Bryzgalova/Krushelnitskiy scored 3 in the third end, then added a steal or their own in the fourth end. Skaslien/Nedregotten scored a single in the fifth end to extend lead to 6-4, then forced Bryzgalova/Krushelnitskiy to a single in the sixth end. Skaslien/Nedregotten added on more the seventh end with Bryzgalova/Krushelnitskiy responding in the eighth end scoring 2 to send the game to an extra end where Skaslien/Nedregotten scored a single for the 8-7 win.

Polina Bikker/Petr Dron (St. Petersburg, RUS) won 10-4 over Ildiko Szekeres/Gyeorgy Nagy (Budapest, HUN) in the bronze medal game. Bikker/Dron took home $1,910CDN, while Szekeres/Nagy won $1,273CDN.

In the semifinals, Skaslien/Nedregotten deated Szekeres/Nagy 10-3 and Bryzgalova/Krushelnitskiy won 8-3 over Bikker/Dron. In the quarterfinals, Skaslien/Nedregotten won 8-4 over Rui Wang/De Xin Ba (Harbin, CHN), Bryzgalova/Krushelnitskiy defeated Maria Komarova/Daniil Goryachev (St. Petersburg, RUS) 8-3, Bikker/Dron won 7-6 over Alina Biktimirova/Timur Gadzhikhanov (Moscow, RUS) and Szekeres/Nagy eliminated Ekaterina Antonova/Sergey Adrianov (Moscow, RUS) by a score of 8-5. Wang/Ba, Komarova/Goryachev, Biktimirova/Gadzhikhanov and Antonova/Adrianov earned $637CDN for their quarterfinal finishes.

Skaslien/Nedregotten went 4-1 in the 24 team qualifying round. In their opening game, Skaslien/Nedregotten defeated Nadezhda Okorokova/Yury Morozov (Moscow, RUS) 10-1, won against Viktoria Enbaeva/Dmitry Mironov (Sochi, RUS) 9-4, and Olga Kotelnikova/Alexey Tuzov (Dmitrov, RUS) 7-4. Skaslien/Nedregotten won their fourth game over Bryzgalova/Krushelnitskiy 8-6, then losing their final round-robin game to Anastasia Khalanskaia/Andrey Drozdov (St. Petersburg, RUS) 7-5.
