As the 11th seeded team coming into the week, St-Georges and her team of Jamie Sinclair, Emily Riley and Lisa Weagle might be forgotten amonst a deep field at this year's Scotties, though the experience through the lineup makes them a team to look out for. Starting with hammer, won in the pre-game draw to the button challenge, St-Georges scored two points for the early lead. Einarson, of Gimli, with Val Sweeting at third and Karlee Burgess and Krysten Karwacki on the front end scored three point in the second end. St-Georges evened the score with a single point in the third end, then stole singles in the fourth and fifth ends to hold a 5-3 lead at the game's halfway point. After the break, Einarson scored two points to even the score, with St-Georges restoring the advantage with a deuce of their own in the seventh end. St-Georges maintained their two point lead into the final end after the teams traded singles in the eighth and ninth end, where Einarson had a shot for the win, difficult, but possible. The rock tracked wide, leaving St-Georges with a stolen point and a 9-6 win. St-Georges improved to 3-1 reaching the halfway point of the round-robin portion of the event, with the top three teams in each pool advancing to the playoff round. The win was the 25th of the season for St-Georges, against 15 losses. The 41st-ranked team on the World Curling rankings has played a limited schedule on the season, with six events played including the Quebec championship. St-Georges also won the Swiss Chalet Women's Spiel in North Bay, along with reaching the quarterfinals twice, in September at the AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic and again at the Stu Sells 1824 Halifax Classic. St-Georges returns to the ice on Tuesday morning against Manitoba's Kate Cameron, while Einarson plays Kerry Galusha of the Northwest Territories. |
