Cameron Wins Manitoba Title
![]() Kate Cameron (photo: CurlManitoba) will return to the Scotties again after defeating Winnipeg's Beth Peterson 7-6 in the RME Women of the Rings Manitoba Provincial Final. By Connor Simms #19 ranked in the World Kate Cameron, with Taylor McDonald at third, Brianna Cullen and Mackenzie Elias on the front end, earned their birth at the 2025 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Thunder Bay, ON. This week, they were without second Brianna, who joined the team late after a bronze medal finish with Team Canada at the FISU University Games in Torino, Italy. A familiar player for Cameron in Allison Flaxey, who played with Cameron back in the 2018-2019 season, stepped in for them at the RME Women of the Rings Provincials. This is Elias's first Women's provincial championship, as she went to the last two Scotties Tournament of Hearts as a Wild Card Team. This is also the first Scotties appearance for Cullen joining this team this season. This will be Cameron and McDonald's sixth consecutive Scotties appearance. They played together in the previous quad, with Laura Walker as their skip representing Alberta. Cameron will look to return to the Scotties page playoff, losing out last season in the semi-finals to Jennifer Jones. They also took down the four-time defending champions in Gimli's Kerri Einarson in the 3/4 page qualifier game. Cameron finished 6-2 in the 12-team qualifying round. In their opening game, Cameron defeated Cheyenne Ehnes (Winnipeg, MB) 9-5, then won 9-1 against Sarah-Jane Sass (Winnipeg, MB). Cameron lost 9-5 against Hailey McFarlane (Winnipeg, MB). Cameron responded with a 9-3 win over Rachel Kaatz (Winnipeg, MB). Cameron lost 8-7 against Lisa McLeod (Winnipeg, MB). Cameron responded with an 8-6 win over Robertson. Cameron won 7-5 against Kristy Watling (East St. Paul, MB), then 7-6 against Peterson in their final qualifying round match. This was enough for Cameron to earn a direct bye to the final. Peterson went through the playoffs, winning a tiebreaker match against McFarlene and then the semi-final against Robertson. |
