Peterman/Gallant Slide into Saturday's Final

Chestermere's Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant (photo: Curling Canada/ Michael Burns) defeated Lisa Weagle/John Epping 8-5 to make the final at the 2025 Canadian Mixed Doubles Trials in Liverpool, Nova Scotia.

By Connor Simms

Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant are one game away from being Canada's team for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic run.

They played Lisa Weagle/John Epping in a 1v2 page playoff game on Friday evening. Peterman/Gallant started with the Hammer due to their undefeated record.

Peterman/Gallant hit and stuck for their single point in the first end. Attempting a shot for three, Weagle Epping under-circled for the tap and had to settle for their deuce.

Playing a shot arguably not theirs, Peterman/Gallant tried to draw to the side of the button for their second point, just missing and ultimately getting their single. In the fourth end, Weagle/Epping had the opportunity to hit and stick on for two, but it under-curled, so they got their single.

Peterman/Gallant found offence in the fifth, playing the open hit and roll for three points. Using their powerplay, Weagle/Epping missed the split for two points, resulting in another single point. Peterman/Gallant responded with their powerplay, drawing to the eight-foot for three points.

Running Weagle/Epping out of rocks in the eighth end, Peterman/Gallant grabbed an 8-4 victory, curling a team total of 74%.

Peterman/Gallant finished 7-0 in the 16-team qualifying round. In their opening game, Peterman/Gallant defeated Riley Sandham/Brendan Craig (Guelph) 8-6, then won 8-7 against Taylor Reese-Hansen/Corey Chester (Kitimat/Victoria) and 7-6 against Melissa Adams/Alex Robichaud (Fredericton). Peterman/Gallant won 6-3 against Lisa Weagle/John Epping (Ottawa/Toronto), then won 8-1 against Jaelyn Cotter/Jim Cotter (Vernon) and 5-2 against Jennifer Armstrong/Tyrel Griffith (Rothesay/Kelowna). In their final qualifying round match, Peterman/Gallant won 9-6 against Kadriana Lott/Colton Lott (Gimli). Peterman/Gallant defeated Rachel Homan/Brendan Bottcher (Edmonton) in the 1v2 page playoff game.

With that win, Peterman/Gallant booked their place in Saturday's Final versus the winner of Homan/Bottcher and Weagle/Epping. The semi-final will be at 10:00 am Atlantic Time (AT), with the final at 2:00 pm AT.

When asked about being one win away, Brett said, "All the mental training we did over the years, just bring yourself back to the moment right where we are." "Breath and focus on the matter in hand."
