Cameron rolls over Strouse for playoff berth
Winnipeg's Kate Cameron (Photo: Anil Mungal/GSOC) won a cross-border battle to reach the RBC Dominion Securities Western Showdown knockout round. By: Cameron Sallaj Reigning Scotties bronze medalist Kate Cameron soared into the playoffs at the Swift Current Curling Club with a dominant win over Traverse City's Delaney Strouse Saturday morning. With hammer, the Manitoba squad of Cameron, Taylor McDonald, Brianna Cullen and Mackenzie Elias scored a deuce before forcing their opponents to a single in two. A blank in three was followed up by a second deuce by the Canadians to take control 4-1 after four. They then managed a steal in five before swiping another steal in six to end the game early with a final score of 6-1. RBC Dominion Securities Western Showdown - Draw 10 - Kate Cameron vs Delaney Strouse: Team Cameron had a strong start to the 2024-25 season, reaching the finals in Beaumont and the semifinals in Morris and Calgary at the PointsBet Invitational. They also made the finals again in Beaumont in October at the first Alberta Curling Series event. Currently ranked 20th in the points standings, a good performance at the Western Showdown will move the team closer to the Grand Slam ranks as they look to heat up before Manitoba provincials in January. With the loss, Team Strouse have now lost back-to-back qualifying games and drop into the last chance C bracket. There, they will face the winner of Kerri Einarson and Kaitlyn Lawes Saturday night with a spot in the playoffs on the line. Corryn Brown and Satsuki Fujisawa also qualified through the B event Saturday morning while Kayla MacMillan and Michelle Englot dropped into the C qualifiers.
