To advance to the championship game, Tao won 3-2 over Wesley Wendling (Chaska, MN) in the semifinals of the 2025 Original 16 Mens Cash Spiel in Calgary, Alberta, Canada; and won 7-5 over Jace Freeman (Virden, MB) in the quarterfinals. of the 2025 Original 16 Mens Cash Spiel in Calgary, Alberta, Canada;
Tao finished 3-0 in the 22-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Tao defeated Peter Hlushak (Edmonton, AB) 7-2, then won 7-2 against Warren Kozak (Calgary, AB) and 8-7 against Daniel Humbke (Lacombe, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the Original 16 Mens Cash Spiel Championship title, Tao earned 20.250 world rankings points along with the $8,000CDN first prize cheque.
