Powell finished 2-1 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Powell defeated Chris Kennedy (Edmonton, AB) 7-6, then went on to lose 7-3 against Alberta's Daniel Humbke. Powell responded with a 9-3 win over Alberta's Warren Kozak in their final qualifying round match.
