After advancing directly to the championship game, Tori Koana/Go Aoki (Yamanasshi, JPN) lost 9-2 to Chiaki Matsumura/Yasumasa Tanida (Nagano, JPN) in the Final of the Japanese Mixed Doubles National Championship, held December 2 - 8, 2024 at the Wakkanai Curling Club in Wakkanai, Japan.
Koana/Aoki finished 9-0 in the 18-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Koana/Aoki defeated Miyu Ueno/Tsuyoshi Yamaguchi (Karuizawa, JPN) 9-3, then won 9-4 against Minako Tsuji/Akira Kageyama (Okayama, JPN) and 14-1 against Asami Yamamoto/Seiji Yamamoto (Chubu, JPN). Koana/Aoki won 7-5 against Arisa Funaki/Yuto Kamada (Aomori, JPN), then won 7-3 against Yui Ozeki/Ryo Aoki (Tokyo, JPN) and 9-3 against Yumiko Kashiwagi/Koji Nisato (Nagano, JPN). Koana/Aoki won 7-6 against Matsumura/Tanida, then won 10-3 against Moka Tanaka/Koei Sato (Morioka, JPN) and 10-2 against Ikue Kitazawa/Shingo Usui (Nagano, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the Japanese Mixed Doubles National Championship, Koana/Aoki take home 19.250 world rankings points. For week 19 of the event schedule, Koana/Aoki did not improve upon their best events, remaining at 4th place on the World Ranking Standings with 149.476 total points. Koana/Aoki ranks 4th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 93.376 points earned so far this season.
