Bobae Kang (Jeonbuk, KOR) lost 7-5 to Yuina Miura (Nayoro, JPN) in the Final of the FISU World University Games, held January 16 - 23, 2025 in Turin, Italy. To advance to the championship game, Kang won 6-4 over Torhild Bjoernstad (Oppdal, NOR) in the semifinals
Kang finished 8-1 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Kang defeated Laura Watt (Stirling, GBR) 6-3, then went on to lose 7-4 against Serena Gray-Withers (Edmonton, CAN). Kang responded with a 5-4 win over Junhang Pei (Beijing, CHN). Kang won 12-3 against Camilla Gilberti (Verona, ITA), then won 12-3 against Julia Dyderska (Warsaw, POL) and 5-4 against Bjoernstad. Kang won 6-4 against Andie McDonald (Phoenix , USA), then won 7-5 against Moa Dryburgh (Sundbyberg , SWE) and 4-2 against Miura in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the FISU World University Games, Kang take home 11.000 world rankings points. Kang move up 1 spots after posting a net gain of 4.812 points improving upon their best 7 results so far this season, ranking 28th overall with 120.587 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Kang ranks 21st overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 117.438 points earned so far this season.
