Shibatani finished 3-0 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Shibatani defeated Takumi Hasegawa (Tokyo, JPN) 7-0, then won 5-4 against Naomasa Takeda (Nayoro, JPN) and 7-5 against Hiroyuki Honda (Kitami, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.
