Shibatani finished 3-0 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Shibatani defeated Takumi Hasegawa (Tokyo, JPN) 7-0, then won 5-4 against Naomasa Takeda (Nayoro, JPN) and 7-5 against Hiroyuki Honda (Kitami, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.

With their runner-up finish at the Obihiro ICE Gold Cup, Shibatani take home 5.500 world rankings points along with the $1,396CDN prize. For week 1 of the event schedule, Shibatani did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points.
