Yusaku Shibatani (Obihiro, JPN) lost 6-3 to Toshiya Iida (Wakkanai, JPN) in the Final of the Obihiro ICE Gold Cup, held June 7 - 9, 2024 in Obihiro, Japan. To advance to the championship game, Shibatani won 5-4 over Kohsuke Hirata (Kitami, JPN) in the semifinals   of the 2024 Obihiro ICE Gold Cup in Obihiro, Japan; and won 9-0 over Keita Hayashi (Obihiro, JPN) in the quarterfinals.  of the 2024 Obihiro ICE Gold Cup in Obihiro, Japan; 
 
Shibatani finished 3-0 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Shibatani defeated Takumi Hasegawa (Tokyo, JPN) 7-0, then won 5-4 against Naomasa Takeda (Nayoro, JPN) and 7-5 against Hiroyuki Honda (Kitami, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Obihiro ICE Gold Cup, Shibatani take home 5.500 world rankings points along with the $1,396CDN prize. For week 1 of the event schedule, Shibatani did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Shibatani ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
