Rui Matsuura (Nagano, JPN) finished 3-4 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Matsuura defeated Ryo Wakabayashi (Kyoto, JPN) 9-4, then won 9-2 against Koei Sato (Tohoku, JPN). Matsuura went on to lose 6-2 against Shinya Abe (Sapporo, JPN). Matsuura lost 9-1 to Kohsuke Hirata (Kitami, JPN) where Matsuura responded with a 9-4 win over Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, JPN). Matsuura went on to lose 7-3 against Takumi Maeda (Tokoro, JPN). Matsuura lost 10-8 to Riku Yanagisawa (Karuizawa, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.

Matsuura earned 4.500 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. For week 28 of the event schedule, Matsuura did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Matsuura ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
