Mike McEwen (Saskatoon, SK) lost 7-2 to Matt Dunstone (Winnipeg, MB) in the Final of the Astec Safety Challenge, held January 8 - 11, 2025 at the Lloydminster Curling Club in Lloydminster, Canada. To advance to the championship game, McEwen won 6-4 over Bruce Mouat (Stirling, SCO) in the semifinals of the 2025 Astec Safety Challenge in Lloydminster, Alberta, Canada; and won 3-2 over Yannick Schwaller (Geneve, SUI) in the quarterfinals. of the 2025 Astec Safety Challenge in Lloydminster, Alberta, Canada;
 
McEwen finished 3-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McEwen defeated Logan Ede (Saskatoon, SK) 10-1, then won 7-4 against Brent Pierce (New Westminister, BC). McEwen went on to lose 6-1 against Mouat. McEwen responded with a 11-9 win over Wouter Gosgens (Zoetermeer, NED) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Astec Safety Challenge, McEwen take home 38.500 world rankings points along with the $24,000CDN prize. McEwen move up 2 spots after posting a net gain of 19 points improving upon their best 7 results so far this season, ranking 5th overall with 321.219 total points on the World Ranking Standings. McEwen ranks 4th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 262.000 points earned so far this season.
