Shinya Abe (Sapporo, JPN) finished 1-3 in the 28-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Abe lost 10-2 to John Epping (Sudbury, NO), droppimg another game, 8-7 to Mark Kean (Woodstock, ON) where Abe responded with a 8-3 win over Kevin Koe (Calgary, AB). Abe went on to lose 8-6 against Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL) in their final qualifying round match.

Abe earned 2.625 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. For week 12 of the event schedule, Abe did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Abe ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
