Takashi Kawahara (Chubu, JPN) finished 2-2 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Kawahara lost 9-3 to Tamotsu Matsumura (Chubu, JPN), then responded with a 12-4 win over Hitoshi Ishihara (Chubu, JPN). Kawahara won 10-5 against Katsuyuki Ohara (Chubu, JPN). Kawahara went on to lose 10-4 against Kounosuke Takahashi (Nagano, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.

Kawahara earned 0.375 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. For week 21 of the event schedule, Kawahara did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Kawahara ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
