Hinako Sonobe/Ryo Ogihara (Karuizawa, JPN) finished 3-3 in the 21-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sonobe/Ogihara lost 11-2 to Chiaki Matsumura/Yasumasa Tanida (Nagano, JPN), then responded with a 11-1 win over Yukari Ido/Takahiro Ido (Okayama, JPN). Sonobe/Ogihara won 9-4 against Japan's Arisa Funaki/Yuto Kamada. Sonobe/Ogihara went on to lose 10-2 against Chinami Yoshida/Tetsuro Shimizu (Kitami, JPN). Sonobe/Ogihara lost 7-4 to Kohane Tsuruga/Takaaki Minami (Sapporo, JPN) where Sonobe/Ogihara responded with a 8-6 win over Japan's Tamami Horiuchi/Takahito Tomiyasu in their final qualifying round match.

Sonobe/Ogihara earned 2.813 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. For week 30 of the event schedule, Sonobe/Ogihara did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Sonobe/Ogihara ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
