Hayato Sato (Sapporo, JPN) lost 9-6 to Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, JPN) in the Final of the Wakkanai Midori Challenge Cup, held August 10 - 13, 2023 in Hokkaido, Japan. To advance to the championship game, Sato won 6-5 over Riku Yanagisawa (Karuizawa, JPN) in the semifinals

Sato finished 2-1 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sato defeated Kohsuke Hirata (Kitami, JPN) 7-5, then won 7-6 against Japan's Kantaro Kawano. Sato went on to lose 8-5 against Morozumi in their final qualifying round match.

With their runner-up finish at the Wakkanai Midori Challenge Cup, Sato take home 13.750 world rankings points along with the $4,646CDN prize, moving up 4 spots the World Ranking Standings into 39th place overall with 92.000 total points. Sato ranks 2nd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 25.750 points earned so far this season.
