Hirata finished 3-1 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Hirata defeated Japan's Kantaro Kawano 8-3, then won 6-2 against Takumi Maeda (Kitami, JPN) and 7-1 against Morozumi. Hirata went on to lose 7-4 against Ryo Aoki (Sapporo, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.

With their runner-up finish at the ARGO GRAPHICS Cup, Hirata take home 11.000 world rankings points along with the $500,000CDN prize.
