Zheng/Pietrangelo went on to lose 8-7 against Lynn Kreviazuk/David Mathers (Ottawa, ON). Zheng/Pietrangelo responded with a 7-5 win over Jenny White/Ed White (Charlottetown, PEI) in their final qualifying round match.

Zheng/Pietrangelo earned 15.000 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins.
