Matsumura Runner-Up at 2023 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship

Chiaki Matsumura (Karuizawa, JPN) lost 8-2 to Cory Thiesse (Duluth, USA) in the Final of the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, held April 22 - 29, 2023 in Gangneung, Korea. Advancing directly to the semifinals, Matsumura won 5-4 over Martine Roenning (Lillehammer, NOR) to advance to the championship game. of the 2023 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Gangneung, Korea;

Matsumura finished 8-1 in the 0-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Matsumura defeated Pia-Lisa Schoell (Fuessen, GER) 7-6, then won 7-5 against Thiesse and 8-7 against Therese Westman (Stockholm, SWE). Matsumura won 12-7 against Lina Opel (Kent, ENG), then won 9-2 against Hannah Augustin (Kitzbuehel, AUT) and 10-8 against Roenning. Matsumura won 7-4 against Dilsat Yildiz (Erzurum, TUR), then won 7-5 against Oihane Otaegi (San Sebastian, ESP). Matsumura went on to lose 9-1 against Briar Schwaller (Bern, SUI) in their final qualifying round match.

With their runner-up finish at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, Matsumura take home 60.500 world rankings points, dropping 12 spots on the World Ranking Standings into 721st place overall with 158.000 total points. Matsumura ranks 8th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 158.000 points earned so far this season.
