To advance to the championship game, McNamara won 8-4 over Brian Lewis (Ottawa, ON) in the semifinals of the 2023 Capital Curling Valley Open in Carleton Place, Ontario; and won 10-8 over Howard Rajala (Ottawa, ON) in the quarterfinals.
McNamara finished 2-1 in the 20-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McNamara lost 9-2 to Lewis, then responded with a 6-3 win over Merv McBride (Manotick, ON). McNamara won 11-1 against Denis Martel (Ottawa, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the Capital Curling Valley Open Championship title, McNamara earned 3.750 world rankings points along with the $2,000CDN first prize cheque. McNamara move up 1 spots after posting a net gain of 1.875 points improving upon their best 4 results so far this season, ranking 83rd overall with 43.116 total points on the World Ranking Standings. McNamara ranks 75th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 19.688 points earned so far this season.
