Kohsuke Hirata (Kitami, JPN) won 8-6 over Andrew Dunbar (Edmonton, AB) in the Final of the Alberta Curling Series - Event 1, held October 13 - 15, 2023 at the Beaumont Curling Club in Beaumont, Canada. To advance to the championship game, Hirata won 6-5 over Scott Webb (Grande Prairie, AB) in the semifinals of the 2023 Alberta Curling Series - Event 1 in Beaumont, Alberta, Canada;
Hirata finished 2-1 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Hirata defeated Jamie Koe (Yellowknife, NT) 9-5, then went on to lose 6-5 against Dunbar. Hirata responded with a 4-3 win over Qiang Zou (Beijing, CHN) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the Alberta Curling Series - Event 1 Championship title, Hirata earned 7.500 world rankings points along with the $2,200CDN first prize cheque. Hirata move up 1 spots after posting a net gain of 1.5 points improving upon their best 3 results so far this season, ranking 43rd overall with 82.344 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Hirata ranks 33rd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 41.000 points earned so far this season.
