Sam Mooibroek (Waterloo, ON) won 9-7 over Adam McEachren (Halifax, NS) in the Final of the USPORT Curling Canada University Championships, held March 15 - 19, 2023 in Sudbury, Ontario. To advance to the championship game, Mooibroek won 12-10 over Owen Purdy (Kingston, ON) in the semifinals of the 2023 USPORT Curling Canada University Championships in Sudbury, Ontario;
Mooibroek finished 6-1 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Mooibroek defeated Aden Kavanaugh (Halifax, NS) 7-3, then won 8-5 against Johnson Tao (Edmonton, AB). Mooibroek went on to lose 9-8 against Jamie Stewart (Federicton, NB). Mooibroek responded with a 10-7 win over Purdy. Mooibroek won 8-5 against Stewart, then won 11-8 against Kenan Wipf (Calgary, AB) and 9-6 against McEachren in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the USPORT Curling Canada University Championships Championship title, Mooibroek earned 7.500 world rankings points. For week 33 of the event schedule, Mooibroek did not improve upon their best events, remaining at 38th place on the World Ranking Standings with 91.875 total points. Mooibroek ranks 38th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 91.875 points earned so far this season.
