Dylan Johnston (Thunder Bay, NO) finished 1-3 in the 21-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Johnston lost 7-2 to Soo-Hyuk Kim (GyeongBuk, KOR), then responded with a 9-4 win over Connor Simms (Sault Ste Marie, ON). Johnston went on to lose 7-3 against Shinya Abe (Sapporo, JPN). Johnston lost 7-0 to John Shuster (Duluth , MN) in their final qualifying round match.

Johnston earned 1.500 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, moving up 149 spots the World Ranking Standings into 365th place overall with 1.692 total points. Johnston ranks 220th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 1.500 points earned so far this season.
