Hayato Sato (Sapporo, JPN) finished 4-4 in the 9-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sato lost 9-4 to Riku Yanagisawa (Karuizawa, JPN), droppimg another game, 8-7 to Shinya Abe (Sapporo, JPN) where Sato responded with a 12-4 win over Japan's Kotaro Noguchi. Sato won 7-3 against Ryo Ogihara (Tokyo, JPN), then won 8-5 against Takanori Ichimura (Nagano, JPN). Sato went on to lose 7-4 against Kohsuke Hirata (Kitami, JPN). Sato lost 6-2 to Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, JPN) where Sato responded with a 14-1 win over Hiroki Yoshioka (Okayama, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.

Sato earned 5.250 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. Sato move up 9 spots after posting a net gain of 4.085 points improving upon their best 7 results so far this season, ranking 54th overall with 65.166 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Sato ranks 48th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 64.000 points earned so far this season.
