In their opening game, Newson lost 7-6 to Bryan Cochrane (Cornwall, PEI), then responded with a 9-4 win over Steven van Ouwerkerk (Summerside, PEI). Newson went on to lose 7-5 against Phil Gorveatt (Montague, PEI). Newson lost 9-6 to Tyler Harris (Crapaud, PEI) in their final qualifying round match.
