Smith won 8-4 against Trent Skanes (St. John's, NL), then won 9-3 against Dave Thomas (St. John's, NL). Smith went on to lose 11-1 against Sean O'Leary (St. John's, NL). Smith lost 9-4 to Young where Smith responded with a 6-5 win over Andrew Symonds (St. John's, NL) in their final qualifying round match.
