Joel Retornaz (Trentino, ITA) lost 6-5 to Whyte in the Final of the Aberdeen International Curling Championship, held March 16 - 19, 2023 in Aberdeen, Scotland. To advance to the championship game, Retornaz won 7-3 over Waddell in the semifinals of the Aberdeen International Curling Championship in Aberdeen, Scotland;
 
Retornaz finished 4-1 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Retornaz defeated James Craik (Stirling, SCO) 6-3, then won 7-6 against Yves Stocker (Zug, SUI) and 7-5 against Kapp. Retornaz won 7-1 against Andrin Schnider (Schaffhausen, SUI). Retornaz went on to lose 0-0 against Michael Brunner (Bern, SUI) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Aberdeen International Curling Championship, Retornaz take home 27.500 world rankings points along with the $2,513CDN prize, remaining in 3rd place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of 1.25 after improving upon their best so far this season. Retornaz ranks 3rd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 319.750 points earned so far this season.
