Purcell finished 4-2 in the 13-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Purcell defeated Nicholas Deagle (Bridgewater, NS) 9-2, then won 8-3 against Peter Burgess (Truro, NS) and 5-4 against Paul Flemming (Halifax, NS). Purcell won 6-3 against Stuart Thompson (Halifax, NS). Purcell went on to lose 6-3 against Manuel. Purcell lost 9-7 to Flemming in their final qualifying round match.

With their runner-up finish at the Nova Scotia Tankard, Purcell take home 11.000 world rankings points.
