Eduard Nikolov (Kyiv, UKR) needed tiebreakers to advance to the playoffs, Nikolov finished 3-4 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Nikolov defeated Ireland's John Wilson 6-5, then went on to lose 7-6 against Juraj Gallo (Bratislava, SVK). Nikolov lost 5-3 to Konstantin Rykov (Vilnius, LTU) where Nikolov responded with a 10-6 win over Eduard Veltsman (Tallinn, EST). Nikolov won 8-7 against James Pougher (Hawarden, WAL). Nikolov went on to lose 7-4 against Kalle Kiiskinen (Hyvinkaa, FIN). Nikolov lost 10-5 to Andrew Woolston (Kent, ENG) in their final qualifying round match.

Nikolov earned 3.375 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. For week 17 of the event schedule, Nikolov did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Nikolov ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
