McDonald won 5-2 against William Butler (St. John's, NL), then won 7-3 against Jamie Koe (Yellowknife, NT) and 6-4 against Corey Chambers (Miami, MB). McDonald won 7-5 against Grant Odishaw (Moncton, NB), then won 9-5 against Shaun Meachem (Swift Current, SK). McDonald went on to lose 5-4 against Felix Asselin (Glenmore, QC). McDonald lost 6-3 to Miles Craig (Victoria, BC) in their final qualifying round match.
