Matsumura/Tanida finished 4-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Matsumura/Tanida defeated Rachel Kawleski/Josh Moore (Fargo, ND) 7-2, then went on to lose 9-3 against Aileen Geving/John Shuster (Duluth, MN). Matsumura/Tanida responded with a 9-3 win over Lorna Cagann/Matthew Sherry (Madison, WI).
