To advance to the championship game, Rooney won 4-2 over Ontario's Jacob Dobson in the semifinals of the 2022 Stu Sells U21 Tankard in Barrie, Ontario, Canada;
 
Rooney finished 4-2 in the 0-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Rooney defeated King 6-4, then won 10-4 against Dylan Niepage (Guelph, ON) and 5-4 against Ontario's Jacob Dobson. Rooney went on to lose 10-8 against King. Rooney responded with a 6-4 win over Niepage. Rooney went on to lose 9-1 against Ontario's Jacob Dobson in their final qualifying round match.
