Young won 7-4 against Sean O'Leary (St. John's, NL), then won 8-2 against Ken Peddigrew (St. John's, NL) and 7-4 against Dave Thomas (Port aux Basques, NL). Young won 9-4 against Trent Skanes (St. John's, NL), then won 8-3 against Smith in their final qualifying round match.
