In their opening game, McDonald lost 6-3 to Scott Mitchell (Whitby, ON), then responded with a 10-3 win over Dallas Burgess (Kakabeka Falls, NONT). McDonald won 12-2 against Chase MacMillan (Cornwall, PEI), then won 11-3 against Josh Nowlan (Moncton, NB). McDonald went on to lose 8-3 against Johnson Tao (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.

McDonald earned 9.975 world rankings points for their Top 5 finish in the Canadian Junior World Qualifier, moving up 25 spots the World Ranking Standings into 136th place overall with 26.858 total points. McDonald ranks 90th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 26.858 points earned so far this season.
