Eduard Veltsman (Tallinn, EST) finished 4-3 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Veltsman lost 7-2 to Sergio Vez (Vitoria-Gasteiz, ESP), then responded with a 9-2 win over Gabor Ezsol (Budapest, HUN). Veltsman won 9-6 against Belgium's Tom Van Waterschoot. Veltsman went on to lose 11-3 against Sergei Glukhov (Moscow, RUS). Veltsman responded with a 9-6 win over Dmitryi Barkan (Minsk, BLR). Veltsman won 8-6 against Konstantin Rykov (Vilnius, LTU). Veltsman went on to lose 8-7 against Martins Truksans (Riga, LAT) in their final qualifying round match.

Veltsman earned 5.344 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, moving up 31 spots the World Ranking Standings into 172nd place overall with 15.524 total points. Veltsman ranks 143rd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 12.025 points earned so far this season.
