Smith finished 4-1 in the 12-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Smith lost 7-1 to Purcell, then responded with a 6-5 win over Gary Oke (Corner Brook, NL). Smith won 6-2 against Sean O'Leary (St. John's, NL), then won 8-6 against Ryan McNeil Lamswood (St. John's, NL) and 7-3 against Alex Smith (St. John's, NL) in their final qualifying round match.

With their runner-up finish at the Bally Haly Cash Spiel, Smith take home 10.821 world rankings points along with the $1,760CDN prize.
