Gernot Higatzberger (Kitzbuehel, AUT) finished 2-3 in the 17-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Higatzberger lost 9-5 to Kristof Czermann (Budapest, HUN), then responded with a 13-4 win over Harold Woods (Accra, NGR). Higatzberger went on to lose 4-2 against Kalle Kiiskinen (Hyvinkaa, FIN). Higatzberger lost 7-4 to Lukas Klima (Prague, CZE) where Higatzberger responded with a 6-5 win over Stefan Sever (Ljubliana, SLO) in their final qualifying round match.
