Darryl Sobering (Denver, CO) finished 3-3 in the 11-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sobering lost 11-6 to Wesley Wendling (Wausau, WI), then responded with a 12-2 win over Daniel Casper (Chaska, MN). Sobering won 8-2 against Steven Birklid (Seattle, WA), then won 12-7 against Luc Violette (Chaska, MN). Sobering went on to lose 9-8 against Todd Birr (Blaine, MN). Sobering lost 7-6 to Violette in their final qualifying round match.

Sobering earned 2.692 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, moving up 21 spots the World Ranking Standings into 147th place overall with 12.558 total points. Sobering ranks 104th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 3.873 points earned so far this season.
