Waddell finished 7-5 in the 13-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Waddell defeated Joel Retornaz (Trentino, ITA) 5-4, then went on to lose 9-6 against Soo-Hyuk Kim (Uiseong, KOR). Waddell lost 7-4 to Magnus Ramsfjell (Lillehammer, NOR) where Waddell responded with a 7-3 win over Tobias Thune (Hvidovre, DEN). Waddell went on to lose 5-4 against Wouter Gosgens (Zoetermeer, NED). Waddell lost 8-2 to Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE). Waddell lost 8-6 to Brad Gushue (St. John's, CAN) where Waddell responded with a 9-7 win over Yannick Schwaller (Bern, SUI) in their final qualifying round match.
