To advance to the championship game, MacDonald won 11-4 over Stefania Constantini (Trentino, ITA) in the semifinals of the 2021 WCT Latvia International Challenger in Tukums, Latvia; and won 6-4 over Emma Moberg (Stockholm, SWE) in the quarterfinals. of the 2021 WCT Latvia International Challenger in Tukums, Latvia;
MacDonald finished 4-1 in the 17-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, MacDonald defeated Santa Blumberga (Riga, LAT) 8-4, then went on to lose 9-3 against Lithuania's Virginija Paulauskaite. MacDonald responded with a 7-6 win over Anna Kubeskova (Prague, CZE). MacDonald won 8-3 against Daria Chmarra (Lodz, POL), then won 8-2 against Agi Szentannai (Budapest, HUN) in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the WCT Latvia International Challenger, MacDonald take home 14.009 world rankings points along with the $1,139CDN prize, moving up 24 spots the World Ranking Standings into 74th place overall with 31.335 total points. MacDonald ranks 64th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 14.009 points earned so far this season.
