Smith finished 3-2 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Smith lost 7-2 to Yannick Schwaller (Bern, SUI), then responded with a 9-6 win over Chad Stevens (Chester, NS). Smith went on to lose 7-5 against Brent MacDougall (Halifax, NS). Smith responded with a 6-4 win over Matthew Manuel (Halifax, NS). Smith won 5-2 against Andrew Symonds (St. John's, NL) in their final qualifying round match.
