Johnson Tao (Edmonton, AB) lost 10-4 to Landan Rooney (Whitby, ON) in the Final of the Canadian U21 Junior Mens Championship, held March 25 - April 1, 2022 in Stratford, Ontario. To advance to the championship game, Tao won 5-4 over Jordon McDonald (Winnipeg, MB) in the semifinals of the 2022 Canadian U21 Junior Mens Championship in Stratford, Ontario; and won 5-4 over Connor Deane (New Westminster, BC) in the quarterfinals. of the 2022 Canadian U21 Junior Mens Championship in Stratford, Ontario;
Tao finished 7-1 in the 18-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Tao defeated Mitchell Schut (Cornwall, PEI) 5-4, then won 9-2 against Aaron Van Ryssel (Springfield, MB) and 6-5 against Adam Fenton (New Westminster, BC). Tao won 12-3 against Rajan Dalrymple (Oromocto, NB), then won 7-3 against Dylan Niepage (Guelph, ON). Tao went on to lose 7-1 against Nathan Young (St. John's, NL). Tao responded with a 9-5 win over Daymond Bernath (Saskatoon, SK). Tao won 9-2 against Nick Mosher (Halifax, NS) in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the Canadian U21 Junior Mens Championship, Tao take home 23.687 world rankings points. For week 36 of the event schedule, Tao did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Tao ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
