Karsten Sturmay (Edmonton, AB) won 7-2 over Reid Carruthers (Morris, MB) in the Final of the Ed Werenich Golden Wrench Classic presented by The Lodge Sasquatch Kitchen, held January 26 - 29, 2023 at the Coyotes Curling Club in Tempe, United States. To advance to the championship game, Sturmay won 6-3 over Aaron Sluchinski (Calgary, AB) in the semifinals of the 2023 Ed Werenich Golden Wrench Classic presented by The Lodge Sasquatch Kitchen in Tempe, Arizona, United States; and won 8-3 over Scott Dunnam (Philadelphia, PA) in the quarterfinals.
Sturmay finished 5-0 in the 18-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sturmay defeated Bob Leclair (Tempe, AZ) 6-2, then won 5-2 against Justin McBride (Anaheim, CA) and 11-1 against Jordan Peters (Winnipeg, MB). Sturmay won 8-5 against Ethan Sampson (Chaska, MN), then won 5-3 against Sluchinski in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the Ed Werenich Golden Wrench Classic presented by The Lodge Sasquatch Kitchen Championship title, Sturmay earned 26.250 world rankings points along with the $7,968CDN first prize cheque, remaining in 17th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of 11.25 after improving upon their best so far this season. Sturmay ranks 16th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 129.750 points earned so far this season.
