Kurz won 6-1 against Braeden Moskowy (Regina, SK). Kurz went on to lose 9-3 against Kyle Doering (Winnipeg, MB). Kurz responded with a 5-3 win over Brett Gallant (St. John's, NL). Kurz won 5-3 against Mark Kean (Woodstock, ON), then won 5-3 against Greg Smith (St. John's, NL) in their final qualifying round match.
