In their opening game, Yamaguchi defeated Hiroki Yoshioka (Okayama, JPN) 7-3, then won 7-3 against Michio Hatano (Chiba, JPN) and 11-3 against Hiromitsu Kuriyama (Tokyo, JPN). Yamaguchi won 4-3 against Tomoji Arai (Tokyo, JPN), then won 5-1 against Takuya Ishikawa (Tokyo, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Keijinkai Rizing Cup Championship title, Yamaguchi earned 11.373 world rankings points along with the $5,934CDN first prize cheque.
