Tyler Smith (Charlottetown, PEI) finished 4-3 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Smith defeated Quebec's Raphael Patry 6-5, then won 8-3 against Chase Sinnett (Chaska, USA) and 6-5 against Jacques Gauthier (Winnipeg, MB). Smith went on to lose 8-1 against Yves Wagenseil (Bern, SUI). Smith lost 7-1 to Sinnett where Smith responded with a 5-3 win over Ontario's Ryan Hahn. Smith went on to lose 7-1 against Jordan McNamara (Ottawa, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
