In their opening game, Sun/Zhang defeated Taylor Stremick/Logan Ede (Regina, SK) 8-5, then went on to lose 7-4 against Ashley Quick/Mike Armstrong (Regina, SK). Sun/Zhang responded with a 7-6 win over Michelle Englot/Derek Schneider (Regina, SK). Sun/Zhang went on to lose 7-1 against Marlene Albrecht/Matt Wozniak (Zurich, SUI). Sun/Zhang responded with a 8-4 win over Saskatchewan's Stephanie Todd/Kyle Cherpin. Sun/Zhang won 10-5 against Hui Yan/Cheng Kuo (Beijing, CHN). Sun/Zhang went on to lose 9-6 against Quick/Armstrong in their final qualifying round match.

Sun/Zhang earned 7.873 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, remaining in 668th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of 7.872 after improving upon their best so far this season. Sun/Zhang ranks 60th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 35.912 points earned so far this season.
